It was kind of a homecoming at the Canberra opening of I Forget to Forget last night. The fabulous Stephen Gilchrist, Curator of Indigenous Art at the NGV, once worked at the NGA so it was a chance to catch up and see what he’s up to these days … lots by the look of it. The show has a brilliant line up with Tony Albert, Andrea Fisher, Reko Rennie, Helen Johnson, Dan Boyd and Jonathan Jones all of whom are going off at the moment. Well with Stephen at the helm you can’t go wrong really! I Forget to Forget is presented in association with Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces in Melbourne as part of their annual Octopus series of exhibitions. Another shining example of CAOs (Contemporary Arts Orgs Australia) cooperation. Also showing is an evocative video by John Conomos Lake George (After Rothko). Canberra people just love anything about the mysterious lake to the near north. In fact colorful local figure and ccas favorite, Artisto, has already given it the big thumbs up. “That’s made my day”, was his enthusiastic exclamation as he sashayed from the gallery … Both exhibitions run until November 21.
