Paul Hay’s eagerly awaited exhibition Box of Tricks opened last night along with Debra Porch’s Regards to the Family. Paul and Debra are old friends from Adelaide in the late 80s and this has been a great opportunity to get them back together. Work wise they might not have much in common but these two know how to party. Its always fun when they are around. Paul’s famous wounded piano Unprepared is in the show along with many newer works like The Awful Weight of History and The King’s Go. Two things the shows do have in common is an almost monochromatic and earthy feel with a touch of red or yellow here and there but little else. Debra has been an artist in residence in Yerevan where she produced work for this exhibition – making a multi media installation in which she takes us all on a journey into the romance and tragedy of her Armenian ancestry. At Gorman House Galleries until 2 July.
