Elena Papanikolakis opened another colourful exhibition of abstract painting at CCAS Manuka last night. But there is something really lively about Elena’s paintings that goes beyond her use of interesting colour. Paintings appear to float in the space and Elena’s unique style makes for vibrant pulsating exhibitions. As Alice said, ” Despite the error of destruction, and the machine made nature of our response, Papanikolakis reduces these images to their most universal abstract forms, and therefore creates real emotion. What initially seems like an abstract work becomes a flurry of activity, billowing smoke, crumbling ground, crashing waters. Or silent, vast, poetic odes to the world around us. Error Machine at CCAS Manuka until 4 December.
