TRANSIT OF VENUS
Just when you thought there could be nothing left for Gordon Bull to open, he has taken to launching celestial events ! On the eve one such event, Gordon (Head of ANU Art School), delivered a comprehensive introduction to the Transit of Venus … a speech that cannot be repeated until 2125. Seriously though, it was all about an exhibition in the Photospace at ANU Art School to mark the dangerous dash of Venus between Earth and Sun. And a quality show it is – with work by Naminapu Maymuru White, Geoffrey Farquhar Still, Frank Thirion, Heather Burness, Lisa Clunie, UK Frederick, Waratah Lahy, Maxe Fisher, Alex Asch, Ampersand Duck, Genevieve Swift, Katie Hayne, Vivienne Binns and Geoff Newton, Julie Gough and Marjana Del Castillo. Great group of local and not so local talent. Megan the anthropologist astronomer (among other things and pictured below) even set up a booth to provide useful information like how to look at the transit without going blind. Highly recommended. And so is the show – The Transit of Venus Saturday, 2 June 2012 – Saturday, 16 June 2012 Photospace Gallery, School of Art, Australian National University.
