YOUNGBLOOD
Francis E Parker (Curator – Exhibitions Monash University Museum of Art) opened not one, not two, but SEVEN ! new exhibitions at the Queensland Centre for Photography last night. A challenge for any opening speaker Francis did a fantastic job giving equal time to each of these meritorious shows. It was to be a night for dusting off the expats and CCAS Director David Broker followed Francis by launching a commodious mini monograph on the work of Yavuz Erkan. Francis wrote the essay. The beautifully designed book is an impressive start to QCP’s youngblood editions series that will focus on emerging Queensland practitioners. Yavuz, the “star” of his own visual aphorisms is certainly one to watch as he performs and records moments of droll self mockery in a series of encounters with banal objects that underscore more serious issues about body and masculinity. Soon to show work in Fresh Cut, the Institute of Modern Art’s emerging artists exhibition, this book will certainly give Yavuz’ burgeoning career a well deserved kick start. Unorthodox Aphorisms and much. much more at the Queensland Centre for Photography, Brisbane until July 8.
Yavuzs work looks great, I really enjoyed his website! would love to see a similar project for Canberra artists! Thanks for the post.
