Popular local genius Bernie Slater is at it again, this time, with a satirical public art project that poses as junk mail. Bernie’s brochures are heading for a letter box near you (Canberra people) but be careful not to throw them out immediately. Bernie is not so much selling generic products but generic ideas based on products; Xtreme Stuff, Crispy Stuff and Pure Stuff. Its all about Stuff and how we want more and more stuff whatever the cost to ourselves and the environment. Its a very effective message and armed with humour Bernie strikes at the point where consumerism is simply conceptual. In other words, he holds a mirror to our increasingly insane desire for nothing in particular, packaging over product advertising over object.
