Judging from the beautiful and well-dressed crowd at the opening of Scar Clan, more than a few people about town have bought into the cult of beauty and fashion that Louise Upshall dissects. But Upshall’s works are the perfect antidote to the kool-aid (or perhaps vitamin water?) that we’re presented with every day, especially in magazines. Sliced, diced and glossed over in ways that even fashion models aren’t used to, Upshall refashions faces, lashes, lips and eyes into idols that are as commanding as they are absurd.
