FACE TO FACES
Luke Chiswell sure knows how to open an exhibition. With astonishing attention to detail Luke must have planned the opening, not within an inch of its life, but for all the punters to have a bloody good time. And they did. Honky Tonks proved to be a great sponsor and the Sailor Jerry rum really did the trick with out over doing it, if you know what we mean. The lovely Cornelia Frances, famous for her TV roles and her work for the Australian Orangutan Project (AOP), did the ceremonial honours with aplomb – quoting famous women and applying their words to Luke. Lucky devil ! And lets not forget the show in which consists of mixed media works that ask the question “what makes a face?”. What indeed ….. Luke’s reductive images continue his long term interest in faces that exist in the liminal zone between the figurative and the abstract. Throw in his penchant for design and you have some very desirable works. Snap ’em up punters, they won’t last long ! A few pics below to get the juices flowing with a lot more to come – one hopes. Face Facing by Luke Chiswell at CCAS Manuka until 10 March. Thanks to Stella-Rae Zelnik for the extra photos.
