BMA is 21 years old and what better excuse for a big birthday bash. And quite a bash it was we can’t begin to tell you. The gallery was well alive with the sound of music and the beers and wine flowed freely over the course of the evening …. and as the night dragged on because no one could bring themselves to leave, CCAS and BMA got very chummy indeed and one fears had big ideas for future events that hopefully will be forgotten by morning. CCAS is the willing host org for this fabulous birthday party and the gallery is bursting at the seams with posters, photographs, memorabilia and magazines (of course). There is also a special section of you “pissed me off” talking cards. BMA is Canberra’s local free street mag with everything you need to know about modern music and art. The birthday party and exhibition are another great event celebrating Canberra’s Centenary and Robyn Archer (who was in very good form) gave an impromtu speech although we suspect its not her first. Young Alan Sko a.k.a the BMA bossman also scattered a few pearls of wisdom, for which he is well known, into the appreciative and glamorous crowd only moments before they seriously hit the road to ruin. You know you’ve been successful when the punters do monkey impressions – always entertaining. Naturally the paprazzi were there trying to figure out how to work the camera but hey, occasionally it did and the breath taking results are below for all to see. So take a walk down memory lane with BMA and rest assured there are more than a few gems in this show. Its only a two weeker so hurry for Canberra Street Level at CCAS until 6 April.
