As they are escaping from natural disasters fleeing people often take only their photo albums. Those memories too precious to loose. Holly Granville-Edge has produced a great show for her Manuka solo with this, and her cat, in mind. “Photographs can carry a weight and a value far greater than the paper they’re printed on’ she says. There are two distinctive groups of pictures in this show and both a vast departure from the works Holly showed in Blaze#7. In the first group of large colour images she has captured some ordinary looking things such as pencils and wool – and given them the treatment. Transported, transformed, trans everything – the modest objects become a study in spectacle. In the second series Holly has photographed old frames, some with pictures some with out, and presented them in the same old frame. It might be a stupid idea but hey it really works and the audience was voting with their wallets ! Another great show in the CCAS Studio Residents series – they just keep on keeping on – at CCAS Manuka until 21 April.
