Dynamo Tony Elwood welcomed us to the Opening of Dynamo Max Delaney’s first curation at the NGV, Mix Tape 1980’s, which delves into Appropriation, Subculture and Critical Style. Phillip Brophy recalled how, as a youth of the 80’s, Countdown became Countdown Revolution and briefly flirted with politics, setting the agenda for the last 3 Sydney Biennials. I recalled Expo ’88. Then I caught up with Danius and Callum, who reminded me of Yin and Yang. “I’m Yang!” they cried out simultaneously. “Oh what a couple of hosers you both are!” I giggled, from behind my left hand and then Danius charged off, for another in-depth discussion with an unsuspecting lad who’s good at art. Danius is gold. Lady Marigold Potter was there too, looking smashing. On behalf of the Arts Community I thanked her for her most excellent philanthropic gestures. She replied that if you like something, you had best pay for it or it could well disappear. Mix Tape is on at the NGV Federation square till September 1. Natalie Thomas
