100

Last night at the Belconnen Art Centre, CCAS Director David Broker failed to open the latest exhibition by local artists collective Random 9.  It was a great fun night however and while he may not have been the first there, as usual he was one of the last to leave. 100 is no random number for Random 9, however, and its a show put together that artists might reflect on Canberra and its 100 years. The work is a broad church of styles and themes by emerging artists from the ACT area and there are lots of interesting takes that look at issues political, historical, cultural and personal. While the Centenary is killing us socially it been a great opportunity for artists to provide a running commentary on where its all at right now. I know the rest of the country couldn’t really give a rats but for Canberra folk its “my time” and in the immortal words of Karen Carpenter, “we’ve only juts begun”. Artists: Sarah Blythe, Julia Boyd, Jeremy Collins, Louise Coxon, Travis H Heinrich, Maria Klinger, Sonja Kalenjuk, Kristen leydon, Frank Maconachie, Stephanie Alexandra Parker, Merrilyn Sernack, Ingrid Singh, Naomi Somerville, Samita Tatiana and Catherine Winter. At the Belconnen Art Centre until May 5.
