Ever on the search for novelty, for Ordinary Problems, we have solo pictures of the artists and their work. (Nice photos paparazzi!) That doesn’t mean there was no one at the opening …. on the contrary it was PACKED with extremely photogenic people. But the artists are the stars of this one. There’s some brilliant branding going on here as the group calling itself the Inksmiths are four Honours students from the Print Media Workshop at ANU Art School getting together, experimenting with their practices and putting it out there. Seeing where it falls as it were. The show was opened by the lovely Patsy Payne Head of Print Media Workshop. Patsy doesn’t really like giving speeches but they are always good because she makes being nervous endearing, if not entertaining. But back to the show. As Louise Cummins, our fab Art History and Curatorship intern once said, ” Ordinary Problems is an intense and emotional response to that which we encounter in our day-to-day lives.” This show can be seen as bit of a rough diamond, an exercise in honesty where the raw material is also the finished work. The Inksmiths are Zoya Godorja-Prieckaerts, Clare Jackson, Sacha Jeffrey and Chris Sutevski and Ordinary Problems runs until 2 June at CCAS Manuka.
