MIKE BROWN TURNS IN GRAVE

The Mike Brown festival continued last night at Charles Nodrum Gallery. We were able to enjoy a large display of works by the man himself, exhibited on the ground floor, and a group show of contemporary artists responding to his schtick upstairs. The Paul Yore/ Justin Bieber Police Raid Linden Fiasco has rolled along, the Herald Sun Your Say section being my favourite collaborator. They’ve been investigating that old chestnut of a dilemma: the What is Art debate. It’s had us all baffled for some time. A complex narrative has developed within Rupert’s pages. No agreement has yet been reached as to whether Paul’s oeuvre is Art or Not Art. Here’s a contribution from Willow of Preston, who I think I met down the market last Friday:

“Art? Please. This may be classed as art by some, but to most it is pornography. Doesn’t matter what age the ‘head’, it is a blatant display of appalling filth.”

Meanwhile, Joe from the bush sees a money making opportunity, 3 strikes and it’s chokey style – ‘It confuses me why anyone would want to see this sort of rubbish and why we tolerate it on display. Fines for the first offence, huge fines for No. 2 and incarceration thereafter.’ Natalie Thomas
