ART WORLD FAMILY DYNASTY & PIMP MY RIDE

You’ve got to love an Art World Family Dynasty. My preferred Art World Family Dynasty template is when the child becomes the artist parent’s dealer, like the Mora’s or the Olsen’s. When you think on it, it’s the very least that Laura or Alexander Boynes could do for their Mum Mandy. Stuart Purves will fit the bill till one of the kids steps up I guess…. Stuart does have 40 years dealing experience. It reminds me of that old saying: a family that travels to a Desert Lake together, then paints and/or photographs together, exhibits together. And so it was. We drank to matriarch Mandy Martin and her vision. The extensive exhibition was accompanied by the launch of a new book, co-edited by Mandy Martin. The book combines Indigenous, scientific and artistic views of the Lake Gregory area. The show was opened by Professor Jim Bowler AM, who works within the school of Earth Sciences at Melbourne Uni. I don’t think nepotism ever really goes out of fashion. And working with one’s children is never a walk in the Desert, or (as is the case here) a Desert Lake. Natalie Thomas
