Doubled booked on Friday night … While we were mostly at CCAS minding the cab sav Lauren Hewitt was opening her latest exhibition at CCAS Manuka. Luckily Lauren had the presence of mind to take some of her own photographs for the social pages …. and then take the important step of sending them. Lauren’s moody mountain photographs look really great in the Manuka gallery and the current Canberra weather (freezing and depressing) surely must enhance the authenticity of the viewing experience. In Louise Cummins words, “Lauren has long been enraptured by the beauty and mystique of the mountains. A self-described ‘armchair adventurer’ she showcases not just the beauty of mountainous landscapes but a profound sense of isolation and melancholy. Rather than the freedom of space, they map the topography of sadness.” Some Kind of Melancholy – CCAS Manuka until 11 August.
