SALON DES REFUSES DARWIN STYLE
Dusting ourselves off after the unfortunate CDU experience faith was quickly and decisively restored with a warm Darwin welcome at the Old Bank, host to Salon des Refuses. There is an old tradition in the arts where works not selected for a major exhibition like the prestigious National Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Art Awards are exhibited so that us punters can make up our own minds and see what’s on the selection panel’s (mind that is). This was the brilliant idea of Matt Ward of Outstation Gallery and Paul Johnstone of Paul Johnstone Gallery. Local arts luminary Frank Gohier produced the t shirts and poster. All up a fantastic high-spirited opening and a wonderful opportunity to get way from stuffy museums. There is a lot of images from this opening … may have got carried away with the social action in a classic case of overcompensation ! Salon de refuses at The Old Bank corner of Smith and Bennett Sts Darwin until 20 August.
