REUBEN AND RY AT NELLIE CASTAN
CCAS Director David Broker caused a sensation on Melbourne Tram no 8 by declaring that he had not been to South Yarra since 1979. Jo Ann Chapman begged to differ, proffering vague memories of an opening, a prize, a fat lady and two pugs but these memories could not be substantiated with any degree of confidence. There’s been no reason to go there … until last Thursday nIght that is ….. for shows by Reuben Paterson and Ry David Bradley at Nellie Castan Gallery. The entire social pages team was out again and that has come to mean trouble and very late nights – but back to the art. The glitter is not spared for Reuben’s Earth, Wind and Fire mostly large scale sculptural works and paintings that evoke Renaissance master works with a disco twist. Ry’s delicate digital works,❤, reflect the chance encounters that might and do happen when disparate images sourced from the internet come together in cyberspace. Ry’s works are finished with UV cured ink & enamel on aluminium …. some very interesting surfaces and finishes in both exhibitions ! Two classy shows with more than a hint of thoroughly modern spectacle and well worth a trip to South Yarra. 29 AUG – 21 SEP photos by both Nat & Dave !
