Here are some belated pics of Annika Hardings exhibition opening at ANCA. Annika has been sequestered in her garrett for the better part of 2013 doing a series of paintings that brilliantly capture aspects of life in Canberra. We wondered where she was ! This is Annika’s first solo exhibition and explores places around Canberra which don’t quite live up to ideals, myths and expectations, but in falling short present new possibilities. These landscapes are often damaged and overlooked, and can be found where the urban and natural environments collide. Shortfall included a series of small paintings on cardboard titled Postcards from Canberra. These are actually painted scenes of everyday life and ‘progress’ in the city such as roadwork, residential construction and damaged urban infrastructure, rather than the manicured, iconic scenes postcards usually present. It is unfortunate if you missed the show but with a bit of luck and a lot of hard work from Annika we can look forward to more off beat views in Annika’s unique style – very soon.
