The Canberra Centenary drew to a close Tuesday evening with some tongue in cheek religious symbolism. The question on everyone’s lips … what to do with the big 100?  Here is a pic of the big 100 so that everyone know what we are talking about.

Artist Chris Carmody turned the ONE into a grid of relics that people can chip off the one true big 100 .. to remember the centenary. Many people also brought offerings to the newly anointed craven idol, memories of the centenary such as a balloon badge, hats, program guide, 100 ‘glasses’ and so on. Had no idea there was so much merchandise. Chris invented the thermotimecapsule with a thermos and guests wrote messages for the Canberra bicentennial in 2,113. Organise your cryogenic chamber now ! All this was in the context as a wrap up party with wine & beers flowing and excellent savouries. Robyn Archer gave a speech thanking everyone and recounting a few of the years numerous highlights. It wasn’t Robyn’s most entertaining speech but everyone appreciated the acknowledgements and agreed it has been a pretty wild if not exhausting year. One that has seen something of a transformation in Canberra. That’s right folks Canberra people are eschewing self effacement and now, we think we are pretty damn good … look out rest of Australia. (Lots) more about that later -right now its time to bathe in a warm glow of satisfaction as we consider the year that was.
