BLAZE EIGHT : THE OPENING
‘Tis indeed another magnificent Blaze as CCAS’s annual emerging artists’ extravaganza heads into its eighth year. While the Blaze’s tend to consist of many CCAS Studio Residents, Alex Boynes and Annika Harding made some interesting additions this year including S.A Adair and the amazing felt work pictured above, Hardy Lohse’s swipe at Australia’s treatment of refugees and Katherine Griffiths’ strange photographs of women in compromising positions – (no not that kind of compromising !) Alex Lewis’s prints have become enormous sculptures, while Martin James invokes the spectre ye old boat person Captain Cook to make his point about asylum seekers. Katy Mutton takes her military thematic another step further with drawings of high tech aircraft on colourful fatigues. As always the opening was a ripper with zillions of punters going hard. Love it. Blaze Eight at CCAS Gorman House until 29 March.
