Not a fish to be seen in Tim Phillips exhibition of new work which opened at CCAS Manuka last night. Not that we are disappointed with that. Salmon it seems refers more to the colours involved than tasty treats for bears. Tim is well known already as a bit of a prodigy if not a phenomenon. Winner of the Brett Whitely Award (to name but one) he is a master of the still life and a painter’s painter in his early 20s. Consisting of classic still lifes and some more experimental pieces such as Penis, Salmon is a rare opportunity to pick up one of Tim’s works. They usually don’t make it out of the studio. Be warned, however, the gallery is starting to fill with red dots indicating a sell out is nigh. There is no doubt that these are works you will wish you had bought while you still could. Salmon at CCAS Manuka until 2 March.
