BIENNALE OF SYDNEY (AT ARTSPACE)
Ugo Rondinone’s little bird sculptures across the floor of Artspace provided something of an obstacle course for opening weary punters last night. Delicate in appearance, one feels, however, in the event of an accidental encounter, one might come off second best. Bolted to the floor this sturdy flock consists of many individual entities – a strange little characters, representing the natural world brought into the artificial place of the gallery. There were no accidents but many close shaves as the birds kept everyone on their toes and marked a deceptively gentle beginning to what was about to become a very long evening ….
