There’s a stellar local line up at M16 Artspace right now for Wanderlust. Curated by Annika Harding Wanderlust is all about walking or as Annika puts it …. ” Walking being an interaction where the mind, body and environment align. Many of the artists in this exhibition use walking as an inspiration, and investigate their own personal experiences in their work. Some make observations about walkers or the act of walking itself, as a social, environmental and political activity. Across painting, drawing, and less traditional media, these artists explore this everyday activity.” (Should be a Dame) Kate Murphy launched the show with a scintillatingly short speech that actually referred to each artist’s work. And there is a lot of brilliant work in this exhibition which has provided all of the artists with a opportunity to really show off their skills and ideas with works you are sure to be lusting after. So take a wander through M16 until July 6. Artists: Kate Barker, Hannah Bath, Alexander Boynes, Chris Carmody, Amy Dunn, Shellaine Godbold, Annika Harding, Elena Papanikolakis, Jacklyn Peters, Fiona Veikkanen, Jonathan Webster
Also at M16 is Never Without a new series by Emma Le Strange – conte crayon on pastel-gesso primed paper, these works are a highly emotional interpretation of the human form that reflect a period of extreme difficulty for the artist. Emma cranked up the emotion at the opening last night with a performance that left many people in the audience feeling quite unhinged. Thanks EMMA ! In the corridor and foyer until 6 July.
