Some of these photos look like they might have been influenced by James Turrell – currently showing down the road at National Gallery of Australia – well they haven’t. There were just a few moments of green during Danny Wild’s show and performance at CCAS Manuka last night. With one projector Danny measured the space and constructed the work to create the illusion of a 3 channel piece – projected on three walls – not to forget some incidental ceiling action. Bloody Brilliant. There is little doubt as to Danny’s mastery of the medium and Kate Murphy (artist and teacher at ANU Art School) who opened the show rightly called him an inspiration to other students and graduates. Quick fix looks at the effect of toxic materials on the natural environment. Its a video collage of cheap plastic household items that blight the natural landscape. Quick Fix is environmental activism with style as the audience is compelled to consider the irreversible damage done by the (usually) useless objects that economies have become dependent on. AT CCAS Manuka until 30 March.
