At last CCAS City has opened ! This exciting new space sponsored by Canberra City Framing in the heart of Civic, close to the shops, provides a great compact space for artists to show and sell work. Exhibitions will be at 4-5 week intervals and programmed a year in advance by CCAS curators. The first cab off the rank is a brilliant exhibition by the versatile Brian Smith who graduated from Canberra Institute of Technology last year. Brian’s prints, etchings and drawings draw upon the controversial career of German chemist Fritz Haber who’s discoveries were to the benefit and detriment of humanity. Fritz Who? looks at the many and contradictory ways we can look at a person’s life and achievements, how opinions are formed by new and incomplete information. Brian’s exhibition showcases his formidable skills as he looks at Haber’s many faces using different media and styles. Its like a history of art in the 2oth century and met with a great response at the opening last night – which, by the way was packed. Next up Annika Harding …. but make sure you see Brian’s work before the show closes 16 May.
