BODY / TIME / LIGHT
Its taken a good while to come up with some text for this exhibition but as you know we have been protesting. It’s time consuming and currently exhibitions are easily overshadowed by the big bleak picture. Alexander Boynes might work at CCAS but his current show at beavergalleries deserves at least some modest praise and it is noted that the word on the ground is that Body / Time / Light is evidence of a great leap forward. Could be Alex’s best show ever but who are we at the social pages to say. Having always been interested in ‘movement and dynamism in the body’ Alex employs sharp linear patterns within figures and intense colours that radiate from aluminium surfaces. It is not an exaggeration to say that these works have an aura that bathes the gallery in their metallic light, at once ethereal yet earthed by his research into healthy country and communities in the Djelk Indigenous Protected Area of Arnhemland as well as work with Praxis, a multi-disciplinary art collective established with dancer/choreographer Laura Boynes and cellist/composer Tristan Parr 2013. But don’t take my word for it because seeing is believing. Body / Time / Light at beavergalleries until July 3. And while you are there, check Maria Chatzinikolaki‘s Essence of… and David Frazer Drift also until July 3.
