CCAS staff are shocked and saddened to hear that popular ACT artist and designer Robert Foster died yesterday in an accident on the notorious Kings Highway between Canberra and Bungendore. Robert was a graduate of the ANU School of Art, (Gold and Silversmithing) and just last year was awarded the university’s Alumnus of the Year for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. One of the founding members of F!NK in 1993 Robert’s elegant objects for everyday living (such as the very famous F!NK water jug) quickly became icons and thus, indelibly stamped on Canberra’s cultural psyche. His groundbreaking works have been collected by prestigious institutions such as the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, New York’s Museum of Modern Art and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (to name but a few). Truly deserving of the term local legend Robert is one of those people who has just always been around, involved in many business and cultural activities … and always up for a chat.
Out thoughts and deepest sympathies right now are with his partner Gretel and his two daughters.
