NO FEELING WHATSOEVER
It was 50 shades of Jay at CCAS City Wednesday night as Jay Kochel opened a new exhibition with the somewhat provocative title No feeling whatsoever. Not sure what it means exactly but its effective – got me thinking. Despite Jay’s initial revelation that he didn’t know the measurements of the gallery the work is a perfect fit and its quite a spectacular contribution to the lengthening list of great work at the city space. His larger works nail it – based as they are on karesansui rock gardens – as Jay explains – 3D scans of inflatable rocks that he constructed during a residency in Japan. His smaller drawings are rendered circles converted from both constructed and found images. Each piece represents a form thats 1,000 – 10,000 times magnified. It all gets a bit scientific for this luddite but it looks great and that’s what its all about in the end. At CCAS City until 17 September.
