TAKE A LOAD OFF
The last of CCAS’s openings for 2016 kicked off at CCAS City last night and a lovely opening it turned out to be. It came with a welcome cool change and drew a laid back crowd of appreciative punters. Take a Load Off is what it says it is – as Erik strips a selection of local dudes of their clothes but certainly not of their dignity. They are all in very good taste and capture something of the sitters character, many of whom will be well known to social pages readers. There are some wonderful studies of the male physique in “the seated form and the form of a seat”, as Erik puts it. The salon hang of paintings pictured above is punctuated by studies of chairs placed in outdoor settings from the side of the road, to a park or sports field. These works have a melancholy feel while also being amusing in their incongruity. The works reference the memories of the artist, the viewer and the subject over many years.
